A Message from 2011 LEIRA President - Becky Miner

Dear LEIRA Members,

2011 has been a year of change and LEIRA, like many organizations, has had to change in order to remain a viable organization. Some of the changes that have taken place this year include:

  • Restructuring of the Executive Board by consolidating committee chair responsibilities into board positions.
  • We did not host training conferences this year. Instead, we brought training to our membership by hosting      four regional one day training sessions.

  • - In February, JIS/SCOMIS and Records Retention & Management training was offered in the Tri-Cities
    - In April, JIS/SCOMIS and Records Retention & Management training was offered in Mount Vernon
    - In June, Records Retention & Management and Property & Evidence training was offered in Spokane
    - In August, Records Retention & Management and Property & Evidence training was offered in               Longview/Kelso area.
    - In addition, LEIRA hosted a 1 ˝ day regional training at Lake Chelan in October for Public Disclosure               and Leadership.

Our primary focus for 2011 was to remain solvent while continuing to provide quality training to our members. I am pleased to report that we have done just that. We are looking forward to continuing 1 day regional training in 2012 and expanding the October 1 ˝ day regional training to two training tracks.

LEIRA’s on-going and future initiatives include:

  • Improving our webpage and creating a “members only” page/chat feature to network LEIRA members     statewide.
  • On-line training presentations.
  • Partnerships with other organizations / groups to cost share and co-locate training opportunities. Many LEIRA     members are also members of other professional associations. Co-locating/co-sponsoring training is a cost     effective way to provide training to more members.
  • Identifying membership training needs and bringing regional training opportunities to those specific areas.

  • There is much work to do as we continue to move forward during these lean economic times where we are all facing budget and personnel cuts, but no cut in our respective workloads. As we move forward, we are often faced with decisions that are not easy to make. As I pledged to you in early 2011, your LEIRA Executive Board is committed to meeting our challenges head-on and coming out on the other side a strong and viable organization. We remain dedicated to providing membership services through collaboration, education and communication.

As always, if you have any suggestions or recommendations that you would like to see LEIRA consider, please contact me or any of the Executive Board members. We want to hear your ideas.

Merry Christmas to you and your families and Best Wishes for 2012!

    picturepresident Sincerely,
    Becky Miner
